3 Google updates from Galaxy Unpacked 2026

Google announced three major updates at the Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event alongside the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8 devices. These updates center on integrating Gemini Intelligence to handle daily digital chores and enhance productivity across new hardware, including phones, watches, and glasses.

The first update expands Gemini task automation from a few apps to support more than 40 popular applications. Users can delegate everyday tasks like ordering food, shopping, and booking travel or event tickets. Gemini can use advanced reasoning to parse screen images, run tasks in the background while users multitask, and prompt for final confirmation before completion.

The second update introduces Gemini Notebook, formerly known as NotebookLM, which comes preinstalled on the new foldables. The tool acts as a research partner, letting users drag and drop documents, photos, and voice recordings into a workspace to generate custom resources like slide decks, videos, quizzes, and podcasts. A six-month trial of Google AI Pro is included with the new foldables to support these features.

The third update brings Gemini to the Galaxy Watch 9, allowing users to activate the assistant simply by raising their wrist without using a wake word. Additionally, Google previewed new intelligent eyewear frames coming this fall in partnership with Samsung, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker, which will feature hands-free gesture controls linked with compatible Wear OS watches.
