Google rolls out Gemini Spark in local languages for Southeast Asia

Gemini is experiencing rapid growth in Southeast Asia, with active users in the region more than doubling over the past year. Adoption is particularly high among young, tech-savvy users who rely on the app for creative projects, research, and daily productivity. A significant factor in this popularity is the model’s ability to process local languages, with nearly 70 percent of regional prompts submitted in native tongues rather than English.

Most users in the region access Gemini through mobile devices, frequently utilizing voice commands, photos, and video uploads instead of traditional typing. The platform has become a primary tool for generating images, music, and documents, as well as summarizing complex information and providing personalized recommendations.

To support this momentum, Google is rolling out Gemini Spark to Gemini Advanced subscribers in Southeast Asia this week. This feature functions as a proactive AI agent that manages tasks across Google Workspace apps like Gmail, Docs, and Slides. It is designed to operate in the background, completing work even when a user’s device is locked. By expanding this capability to local languages, Google aims to provide a more seamless and integrated experience for its 600 million users across the region.
