Gemini Spark updates: macOS launch, connected apps and more
Gemini Spark is expanding its capabilities with a new macOS application and deeper integrations with third-party services. The macOS version allows users to automate desktop tasks, such as organizing files or creating spreadsheets based on local documents. Users can also assign complex, multi-step tasks to their Mac remotely using a mobile device. This feature is currently available in beta for Google AI Ultra subscribers in the United States.
The platform now connects with a broader range of applications, including Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rentals. These integrations allow users to perform actions like designing flyers, managing files, ordering groceries, or booking appointments directly through Gemini. Additionally, the service now supports custom Model Context Protocol, enabling users to connect their own preferred apps to create a more personalized assistant.
Gemini Spark has also gained the ability to track specific topics and provide real-time updates. Instead of manually refreshing browsers, users can set the assistant to monitor news, sports scores, financial data, or social media and receive alerts when specific events occur or thresholds are met. These updates are designed to streamline workflows and reduce the time spent on repetitive digital tasks across both desktop and mobile environments.
