Proactive cyber defense for governments and enterprises

Google is launching the Fairwind Program, a limited access initiative that provides governments, trusted Google Cloud customers, and cybersecurity partners with advanced artificial intelligence tools for proactive cyber defense. Defenders often face a dilemma between expensive, hard-to-control frontier models and smaller open-weight models that lack complex vulnerability remediation capabilities. The new program resolves this by giving users early access to Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber combined with the CodeMender harness.

The program enables defenders to autonomously find, verify, and fix vulnerabilities at agentic scale, generating deployment-ready patches in minutes rather than weeks. Initial access is staged for organizations critical to societal resilience, including national cyber authorities, critical infrastructure operators in energy, healthcare, and telecommunications, and core technology platforms. Participants must adhere to strict operational standards, such as restricting tool access to internal cybersecurity teams and enforcing multi-factor authentication. More than 650 global partners are already participating.

The initiative is part of a broader commitment to global cyber resilience that builds on Google's existing security architecture and funding efforts. Google.org has brought its total cybersecurity funding to over $100 million globally, including $36 million for 35 cyber clinics that provide free security support to U.S. utilities, public school districts, and hospitals. By shrinking the time it takes to detect and patch flaws, the Fairwind Program gives defenders a critical advantage against fast-moving threats.
