Expanding our support for scientists

As the artificial intelligence model Claude becomes more capable at scientific research, new products and programs are launching to support the research community. These efforts build on the June launch of Claude Science, which integrates common research tools, produces auditable artifacts, and offers flexible computing access, alongside the AI for Science program that provides free project credits.

A major expansion of these support efforts offers 10,000 free and discounted one-year subscriptions globally through a new Claude team plan for scientists. Standard seats are free, and premium seats offering five times the usage limits cost $15 per month, with plans to extend the program beyond the initial 10,000 seats soon. Additionally, the AI for Science program is expanding beyond biological sciences to include researchers in other fields, such as those tackling ambitious, compute-heavy projects like progress on the Riemann zeta function and protein design.

To qualify for the team plan, applicants must be principal investigators or the equivalent at academic or nonprofit research institutions, allowing them to add their lab researchers after verification. Labs requiring usage beyond standard or premium limits can apply for up to $50,000 in project credits through the AI for Science program, with eligibility open to any researcher. Meanwhile, researchers in biology and chemistry remain limited to Opus-class models, and Claude Fable models continue blocking professional biology and drug development queries due to dual-use risks. Partnerships with the US government are also establishing a secure access program for life sciences professionals to use Mythos-class models, having already enrolled the first participants.
