AI tool cuts medical record-keeping time in half in Eidskog municipality
Eidskog municipality in Norway has successfully tested an artificial intelligence tool designed to reduce the time health and care workers spend on medical record-keeping. The trial took place between January and June of this year at the Eidskog health center.
The artificial intelligence assistant functions by transcribing conversations between healthcare workers and patients. It then automatically generates draft notes based on those transcriptions. Before the information is entered into the official records system, human employees carefully review and quality-assure the text.
The practical result of this six-month pilot project is that the time spent on administrative record-keeping was cut in half. Following these positive results, the municipality has officially decided to continue using the digital solution on a permanent basis.
This development matters because it demonstrates a practical way to relieve resource pressures and administrative burdens in public health and care services. By streamlining documentation tasks safely through human-reviewed artificial intelligence, municipalities can free up more time for direct patient care.
