Norway calls for AI-driven defense against digital fraud

Norway is calling for artificial intelligence-driven defenses to protect against a rising wave of digital fraud and technological threats. Minister of Digitalization and Public Administration Torgeir Micaelsen emphasizes that the country possesses world-leading companies with the necessary expertise and technical solutions to combat these issues.

To make these defenses effective, the minister stresses the need to organize these capabilities alongside proper legislation, legal authorizations, and stronger cross-disciplinary cooperation. Furthermore, he highlights that there is significant room for enhanced security collaboration across both the Nordic region and the broader European level.

These priorities form a central part of the minister's official agenda. As part of this effort, he recently convened a meeting with top executives from major telecommunications providers including Telenor, Telia, and Lyse Tele. The gathering also included representatives from the Norwegian Communications Authority, the National Authority for Investigation and Prosecution of Economic and Environmental Crime, and Finance Norway to discuss concrete measures against digital scams.

This initiative matters because criminals increasingly exploit advanced technology to carry out digital fraud and threats against citizens and institutions. By uniting government authorities, financial institutions, law enforcement, and private tech companies, Norway aims to build a systematic defense that demonstrates it is possible to withstand tech-based criminality.
