Lightera to Triple Submarine Optical Fiber Production in Denmark and USA

Optical fiber manufacturer Lightera is making a significant capital investment to nearly triple its production capacity for submarine optical fiber by the year 2029. The expansion involves the company manufacturing facilities located in Brøndby, Denmark, and Norcross, Georgia in the United States.

This manufacturing ramp-up responds directly to surging global demand for high-capacity optical connectivity. Hyperscale cloud providers and network operators are driving this need as they expand data center and artificial intelligence infrastructure, which requires unprecedented levels of fiber density, performance, and scale.

In addition to meeting immediate customer commitments for submarine cable programs, the production expansion prepares Lightera for the upcoming commercialization of its multicore fiber technology. This advanced technology integrates multiple optical channels into a single fiber to significantly increase transmission capacity for future ocean applications.
