Former NATO top figure leads 75 billion DKK European AI supercomputer initiative

Europe currently lags significantly behind the United States and China in developing artificial intelligence models, founding AI companies, and building the necessary underlying computer power. To address this gap, former NATO top figure Anders Dam Jensen is now leading EuroHPC, an initiative backed by 75 billion Danish kroner.

As the director of this effort, Jensen is tasked with establishing gigantic artificial intelligence supercomputers across Europe. These massive computing systems are designed to provide the foundational infrastructure needed to foster future European artificial intelligence giants and prevent the continent from falling completely behind globally.

While it remains uncertain whether Europe can ever reach the level of leading developers like OpenAI and Anthropic, regional stakeholders emphasize that taking action is essential for survival in the global technology landscape. Without these investments in domestic computing power, European industry leaders warn that the continent is destined to lose out entirely in the artificial intelligence sector.
