AI shared over 100,000 confidential patient messages in Denmark

Region Hovedstaden and Region Sjælland shared more than 100,000 confidential patient messages in a large artificial intelligence project. Internal documents reveal that a total of 105,257 messages were distributed without being anonymized.

The shared information includes sensitive details from treatment processes for cancer patients, mentally ill children, and other citizens using the healthcare system. The messages contain private disclosures such as questions about diagnoses, requests for medication renewals, and descriptions of new anxiety attacks.

Experts evaluate that the two regions violated the law on multiple areas by sharing this confidential patient data in the artificial intelligence project. The regions have rejected the criticism.
