Danish regions shared sensitive patient data in a large AI project

Region Hovedstaden and Region Sjælland have shared more than 100,000 patient messages in a large artificial intelligence project. The shared information includes sensitive details about treatment courses, new anxiety attacks, questions regarding diagnoses, and medication renewals for citizens, including cancer patients and mentally ill children.

Experts have evaluated that the sharing of these 105,257 patient messages violates the law on multiple areas because the data was not anonymized before being shared. Internal documents from the two regions form the basis of this revelation.

The involved regions have rejected the criticism regarding the data sharing in the artificial intelligence project.
