AI Startup Urges Optimism from Europe despite Safety Fears
Europe needs to embrace artificial intelligence with greater optimism rather than focusing solely on safety fears, or the region risks falling further behind globally. This perspective comes from Robin Rombach, the chief executive officer of the European artificial intelligence startup Black Forest Labs.
Rombach co-founded the company in 2024 alongside a group of fellow computer scientists, a move driven by the need for European innovation in the sector. Operating with just over one hundred employees, the startup develops FLUX models capable of generating still and moving images from text prompts.
Black Forest Labs is now expanding its technology into the realm of physical artificial intelligence. As part of this expansion, the startup has tested its latest model at an Audi manufacturing facility in a project designed to help robots execute production-line tasks.
