AI adoption doubles in Swedish workplaces according to new survey

Artificial intelligence use in Swedish workplaces has doubled over a single year, rising from 28 percent in 2025 to 56 percent in 2026. White-collar employees remain the heaviest users at 71 percent, but usage among blue-collar workers has more than tripled to 33 percent. Despite this growth, workplace policies remain unclear. While 60 percent of employers permit AI tools, 31 percent of workers do not know the rules, and 8 percent face outright bans, primarily due to privacy and confidentiality concerns in the public sector.

Beyond work, general AI adoption among Swedes aged 18 to 84 jumped from 39 percent in 2025 to 62 percent in 2026. Growth is especially strong among people born in the sixties, seventies, and eighties, and increased female adoption has nearly eliminated the previous gender gap. OpenAI's Chat GPT remains the most popular tool at 52 percent, followed by Microsoft Copilot at 18 percent and Google's Gemini at 13 percent. Additionally, 70 percent of Swedes use Google's AI overviews, and 14 percent report Googling less than a year ago, with about half of them using AI instead.

Despite widespread adoption, four out of ten workplace users do not see efficiency gains, largely because they must spend time fact-checking, testing, and rewriting AI outputs. Regarding source criticism, 37 percent of Swedes always or usually double-check AI answers, 39 percent do so sometimes, and over one in five rarely or never verify the information.
