ByteDance utilizes loophole at Nscale's Norway data center for AI chips

Chinese technology company ByteDance is accessing restricted artificial intelligence chips by utilizing a loophole at a data center located in Glomfjord, Norway, which is operated by Nscale.

Under current regulations, Chinese companies are barred from directly obtaining certain high-powered data chips due to American export restrictions. However, these firms can bypass the restrictions by renting the sanctioned chips remotely through foreign data centers situated outside of China.

ByteDance has taken advantage of this specific workaround at the Norwegian facility to secure the computing power it needs.

This situation highlights a significant method by which international tech firms circumvent trade controls and export sanctions designed to limit Chinese access to advanced artificial intelligence hardware.
