EU vill införa energimärkning för datacenter
Modern datacenter consume vast amounts of energy, which contributes to higher electricity prices for both businesses and households. To increase transparency around this consumption, the European Commission wants to introduce a new mandatory labeling system for these facilities.
The proposed label will detail each facility's usage of both energy and water. It will resemble the familiar labels used for household appliances, featuring a color-coded scale ranging from the best rating of green at letter A to the worst rating of red at letter G.
EU Commissioner Teresa Ribera states that tripling the capacity of Europe's datacenter sector cannot mean tripling the strain on local power grids, water supplies, and electricity bills. If current plans proceed without major delays, the new labeling system could be officially introduced sometime during 2027.
