AI to detect atherosclerosis before heart attacks

Researchers from Aarhus University and Nordic partners have collected about half of a planned one hundred thousand cardiac CT scans. The project aims to train artificial intelligence to detect and measure atherosclerosis before it leads to blood clots.

This large-scale initiative relies on advanced computer analysis to process massive amounts of medical imaging data efficiently. By automating the detection of arterial plaque, the technology helps identify cardiovascular risks much earlier than traditional methods typically allow.

The development is significant because early detection of plaque buildup gives doctors a better opportunity to intervene and prevent dangerous heart attacks. Utilizing artificial intelligence in this manner could eventually transform routine heart screenings and improve patient survival rates across the region.
