Anthropic makes Claude Fable 5 permanent for Max and Team plans

Anthropic has made the Claude Fable 5 model a permanent feature for users subscribed to its Max and Team Premium plans. Starting July 20, these subscribers will have access to the model at 50 percent of their standard usage limits. Users on Pro and Team Standard plans will retain access to the model through usage credits and will receive a one-time 100 dollar credit to support their continued use.

The decision follows significant pressure from competing artificial intelligence models, such as GPT-5.6 Sol and Kimi 3. Anthropic had previously intended to remove Fable 5 from subscription accounts to limit it to API pricing, largely due to concerns regarding compute capacity. However, the company faced criticism for excluding its most advanced model from high-cost subscription tiers, which range from 100 to 200 dollars per month.

This change ensures that subscribers to the most expensive plans have consistent access to the company's top-tier technology without the threat of it being withdrawn. Despite these updates, users on the standard 20 dollar per month plan remain excluded from accessing Fable 5. The shift highlights the ongoing challenge for AI companies to balance the high costs of computing power with the need to provide competitive value to their paying customers.
