How Small Danish Companies Use AI Today

Danish small businesses are adopting AI quickly, though unevenly by size. According to Statistics Denmark, 5 percent of Danish companies with 10 to 49 employees used at least one form of artificial intelligence in 2026, against 88 percent of companies with more than 250 employees. In 2023, only 15 percent of all companies with at least ten employees used AI. The piece describes this as a move in three years from the development departments of large corporations to the offices of carpenters, accountants and hauliers.

Denmark also leads Europe. Eurostat figures show 42 percent of Danish companies using AI in 2025, the highest share in the EU, where the average was 20 percent. The article argues that the divide is therefore no longer between Denmark and the rest of Europe, but between Danish companies that have adopted the tools and those that haven't. Customers notice the difference in response times and in how polished a quote looks.

The tone of the conversation has changed as well. A couple of years ago, talk centred on AI revolutionising Danish business with new business models and big visions. By the end of 2026, the picture is more down to earth. AI is rarely a project with its own steering group; it is more like a window left open next to the email. That holds in a city like Esbjerg, where a plumber's or a haulier's office rarely has an IT department to lean on.

The text ends on a section heading asking what companies use AI for when nobody is watching, but the answer is not included here.
