AI has not caused a jobs massacre, but where are the gains?

Danish businesses use artificial intelligence more than companies elsewhere in the EU, yet the effect cannot yet be seen in the labour market. That is the central finding highlighted in the newly published report from Denmark's economic experts, the "vismandsrapport", as covered by A4 Medier.

The report finds no demonstrable effect of AI on employment so far. Job postings for the positions most exposed to AI have not fallen any more than postings in the rest of the economy. In other words, the roles that would be expected to suffer first are not showing a sharper decline than other jobs.

The piece calls this reassuring in many ways, since it suggests AI has not caused a wave of job losses. But it adds that there is no reason to breathe a sigh of relief. The headline question, "where are the gains?", points to a second side of the picture: heavy adoption of AI has not yet produced visible effects of any kind in the labour market, whether harmful or beneficial.

The text available here is only the opening of the commentary, written by Andreas Antoni Lund. It does not set out what the author sees as the reasons for continued concern, nor does it give figures from the report. The core takeaway is that Denmark is a leading adopter of AI in Europe, and that so far the measurable consequences for jobs are limited, which the author treats as no grounds for complacency.
