Swedish AI browser Strawberry takes on US AI heavy hitters as comes out of beta

Strawberry, a Stockholm-based startup with a team of 12, is taking its AI browser out of beta. It positions the product as an enterprise alternative to ChatGPT and Claude. The company was founded in 2023 and is backed by General Catalyst and by founders of Lovable and Hugging Face. Its aim is to bring AI beyond developers, a key use case so far, to non-technical teams in enterprises.

The browser embeds AI directly into browsing. Workers with no coding knowledge can build agents, which Strawberry calls "companions," for tasks such as sales, recruiting, customer support and marketing. Strawberry is AI model agnostic and also supplies ready-made agents. The agents learn how the business works, and their work is shared across the company, so they become like a colleague. Strawberry says a browser is unique because a team's context, workflows and logins already live there.

CEO Charles Maddock, in his mid-twenties and with one exit from a climate tech startup, says a browser makes sense because people work across ten tabs, not ten files. He says agents can now work for weeks in a row. Asked about rival AI browsers, he said Strawberry competes more with big agent platforms like Claude, ChatGPT, Grok and Gemini. The other co-founders are COO Sebastian Thunman and CTO Arian Hanifi.

The beta launched about a year ago with select clients. Lovable uses it to source engineers, and Tandem Health is also a customer. Early users have built sales prospecting assistants. Strawberry also says it is tapping into European sovereignty demands, because its agents run on a user's device rather than on server-based platforms.

Pricing includes a free tier and subscriptions at $20, $85 and $250 per month, depending on credit usage. In October last year the company raised $6 million, led by General Catalyst and EQT Ventures, with participation from founders of Lovable, Supabase and Hugging Face. Maddock said a Series A would come when it plans to scale across Europe and the US.
