Iceland’s Jónsbók attracts Crowberry and Leo Capital to expand legal AI in Europe

Reykjavík-based legal tech startup Jónsbók has received an investment from the early-stage venture firms Crowberry Capital and Leo Capital. The amount was not disclosed. The money will go toward product development, strengthening the company's position in markets where it already operates, and bringing the platform to more legal professionals across Europe.

Jónsbók offers an AI-powered platform for lawyers. It supports jurisdiction-specific legal research, drafting of documents and emails, analysis of large document collections (including reviewing hundreds of documents at once), and assessment of legal positions with references to relevant legal sources. The company says it is built to account for differences in national laws, languages and legal practices, rather than relying on generic AI systems that may not reflect local requirements. Customers include law firms, in-house legal teams, public institutions, banks and insurance companies across seven markets in the Nordics and Central and Eastern Europe.

The platform launched in Iceland in 2025 and expanded into other European markets in early 2026. Since then it has gained traction in the Nordics, the Baltics and Central and Eastern Europe. Finland has become an important market, where Jónsbók has built a growing local team and customer base. Co-founder and CCO Thelma Christel Kristjánsdóttir said word of mouth has driven growth and that customers are engaging deeply with the product. CEO and co-founder Bjarni Bragi Jónsson said legal AI must reflect each jurisdiction's reality.

The investors backed the team's mix of engineering and legal expertise. Crowberry's Helga Valfells praised the team's understanding of the legal market and its speed of execution. Leo Capital's Henry Goodwin said buyers of legal technology are becoming more sophisticated and looking beyond generic tools, and noted Jónsbók has customers in several European markets and a growing pipeline across more countries. Crowberry focuses on Nordic technology companies, while Leo Capital is headquartered in Singapore and Helsinki.
