Young sales and marketing workers hit hard by AI as companies hire fewer

Artificial intelligence is now showing up directly in Danish employment figures, and young workers in sales and marketing are among the first to feel it. According to Business Danmark, unemployment among 20- to 30-year-olds in the sector stood at 7.7 percent in July. That is more than double the rate in comparable industries, and the report describes youth unemployment in the branch as record high.

The report says AI has taken over many sales and marketing tasks over the past year, and that companies are responding by hiring fewer people. The pressure falls on younger workers in particular, who are typically the ones entering the field and who would normally be hired for the kinds of tasks now being automated.

The piece, by Finans journalist Lars Nielsen and published on 26 October 2026, treats the figures as evidence that AI's effects on jobs have moved from forecast to measurable fact. Only the opening of the article is available, so the detail on which specific tasks have been replaced, which employers are cutting back, and what Business Danmark or others propose to do about it is not covered here. The text does note that the trend is a cause for concern.

The significance for Denmark is that a sector often seen as an entry point for young graduates is showing unusually high joblessness. If companies keep hiring fewer junior staff because AI handles routine work, it may become harder for young people to get a first foothold in the labour market.
