Using ChatGPT as a tutor to learn quaternions for app development

App developer Matt Webb used ChatGPT as an interactive tutor to learn quaternions, a complex mathematical system for handling rotations, in order to add an augmented reality mode to his application called Galactic Compass 2.

Instead of asking the artificial intelligence to simply write the code for him, Webb engaged the tool in a patient and educational dialogue. This conversational approach allowed him to finally grasp the mathematical concepts after struggling to understand them through traditional books and advice from mathematician friends.

By using the technology to learn just enough to make his app function, Webb demonstrated that utilizing artificial intelligence for certain tasks does not end personal education. Instead, the process can motivate individuals to expand their knowledge and tackle difficult subjects they might otherwise avoid.
