Swedish legal AI startup Legora raised $550 million at an $8.8 billion valuation
Swedish legal AI startup Legora has raised $550 million in a Series E round at an $8.8 billion post-money valuation, the company said on Wednesday. The valuation compares with $5.6 billion at its previous round, and the company's annual recurring revenue now exceeds $200 million.
Legora says the money will fund expansion in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific. It will also go toward Legora aOS, the software system in which lawyers and their AI agents work together. Planned additions to that system include agentic intake, horizon scanning and legal research.
A notable shift is in who is buying. In-house legal teams accounted for more than 40% of the customers Legora signed in the third quarter, up from a small fraction of its customer base a year earlier. That suggests the company is growing beyond its law firm clientele into corporate legal departments.
The company was founded in 2023 and brought its product to market in October 2024. It now employs upward of 1,000 people across 18 office locations. More than 140,000 legal professionals use the software, working for over 2,400 law firms and corporate legal departments in more than 80 markets.
For the Nordic AI scene, the round marks a rapid rise for a Stockholm-founded company: a product launched about two years ago now supports a valuation approaching $9 billion, and the funding is aimed at scaling it globally.
