Nscale in talks on new billion-dollar deal with AI giant

Nscale, the AI infrastructure company majority-owned by Kjell Inge Røkke and Aker, is in talks on a new multibillion-dollar deal with the owner of Claude. The agreement would see Nscale supply computing power from its Monarch facility in the United States. Bloomberg reports that the deal could be finalised within the next few days.

The Claude owner would also get a right of first refusal to buy capacity from Nscale's planned expansion of the Monarch site. That would give it priority access to the additional capacity if the expansion goes ahead.

The talks follow a similar agreement the two companies signed in August. That earlier deal was also worth 45 billion dollars, or about 434 billion Norwegian kroner. The report describes the new deal as comparable in kind, and the headline calls it a new billion-dollar agreement.

The parties did not want to comment on the report.

The story matters for Norway's tech and industrial sphere because Nscale's majority owners are Røkke and Aker, so a second contract of this scale with a major AI developer would deepen the company's dependence on that single customer relationship while adding to its pipeline of long-term data-centre demand.
