Economic wise men: Danish labour market model is central to implementing artificial intelligence

The latest report from Denmark's Economic Council, known as the "wise men" (vismænd), concludes that the Danish flexicurity model gives the country good conditions for handling artificial intelligence. Chief economist Jakob Roland Munch of the Economic Council is the figure associated with the report. It was covered by A4 Medier on 20 October 2026.

The report says many workers will probably need further education or will have to change jobs as AI spreads through the economy.

Flexicurity is one of the central features of the Danish labour market. Under it, dismissing employees is relatively cheap for employers, and in return the dismissed employees have a safety net in the form of unemployment benefit (dagpenge). Other elements add to the flexibility of working life, such as pay during sickness and opportunities for further development and training. These have been negotiated by the labour market parties, meaning employers and unions.

The significance is that the arrangement combines easy movement between jobs with income protection and training options, which are the things workers are likely to need if AI changes or replaces existing roles. The report's reasoning is that this mix makes the Danish model well suited to managing the transition.

Only the opening of the coverage was available, so further findings, figures or recommendations from the report are not covered here.
