Sweden Joins European Quantum and AI Skills Academies

Sweden has joined two European skills initiatives, one focused on quantum technology and one on AI. The article, which is a fragmentary excerpt, gives more detail on the quantum side than the AI side.

The quantum initiative is the European Quantum Academy (EQA). It has a total budget of €19.8 million over 48 months, with 50% financed directly by the European Union. It unites 73 partners and more than 100 affiliates across 23 European countries. The article describes it as the largest community in quantum workforce development to date.

Nordita, the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics, is drawing on its long tradition as a Nordic enabler to help build the foundation for quantum skills across the Nordic and Baltic region. Its director, Mikael Fogelström, says: "Europe's quantum future depends on skills as much as on breakthroughs."

On the AI side, the AI Skills Academy initiative in Sweden will focus on AI education for sectors including healthcare and social care. It puts an emphasis on user participation, democratic principles and responsible technology use.

The significance, as the article presents it, is that Europe's progress in quantum technology is tied to workforce skills as much as to research breakthroughs. Sweden's participation links the country to a large, EU-backed effort to train people in both fields. The excerpt does not say who leads the Swedish AI effort, what the AI academy's budget is, or how the training will be delivered.
