France's Sesterce to Pour €10 Billion into Finnish AI Data Center

French AI infrastructure company Sesterce plans to invest €10 billion in an AI data center in Finland. The project is one of the company's most ambitious to date. Sesterce specializes in AI infrastructure and has been expanding across Europe as demand for computing power surges.

The site is in Jamsa, where local officials have welcomed the investment as a potential boost for a region that lost jobs when the paper mill closed. The data center could create both construction and operational jobs, but Sesterce gave no specific figures. The company says it has already lined up an anchor customer for the development, though it did not name the client.

Over the longer term, Sesterce aims to build more than 1 gigawatt of AI capacity across Finland, targeting existing industrial sites as market demand dictates. The company cautioned that any expansion beyond 600 megawatts depends on market conditions.

The article notes that if fully realized, the €10 billion commitment would rank among the largest foreign investments in Finland's technology sector. It also places the project in the context of Finland's positioning as a hub for sustainable data centers. The country's grid is increasingly powered by nuclear, wind and hydroelectric sources, an energy mix that appeals to technology companies looking to reduce the carbon footprint of their AI operations.
