Danish legaltech startup raises €2 million seed to scale AI-powered litigation across Europe

Danish legaltech startup SmallClaims has raised €2 million in seed funding to scale its AI-powered litigation platform across Europe. The company is based in Copenhagen and is looking to grow beyond its home market of Denmark.

The money will go to three things: further development of the AI platform, expansion into additional European markets, and hiring in Copenhagen. The company is targeting markets where digital court systems and cross-border procedures could allow greater automation of legal proceedings.

The company's pitch rests on a cost problem. According to founder and CEO Christian Olson, the court system was built for an era when a lawyer sat with every case. That works for a dispute worth €1 million, he says, but not for a €2,000 invoice. His claim is that European businesses give up hundreds of billions of euros they are legally owed every year because pursuing small claims is not economical.

SmallClaims says it has built a machine that can run such cases at a fraction of the cost. Olson says the new round is meant to prove the model works "country after country, not just in Denmark."

The article gives no details on the investors, the specific countries the company plans to enter, or how the platform works in practice. The figures on unpaid debts come from the CEO's own statement rather than independent data. The story matters as an example of a Nordic startup applying AI to a narrow, high-volume legal niche, where automation could make small claims worth pursuing.
