Maersk forum targets the AI scaling gap in supply chains
Maersk held its Supply Chain Leaders Forum in Copenhagen on Sept. 29, bringing together 120 customers from more than 70 organisations for a day focused on the gap between using AI in supply chains and scaling it. Maersk published its account of the event on Oct. 8.
The central figure comes from a Maersk survey of more than 800 firms. It found that 52% of European businesses use AI in their supply chains, but only 5% have scaled it. Put another way, for every European business running AI across its supply chain operations, about ten use it somewhere without having scaled it.
Guillaume Sauzedde, Maersk's Managing Director for Europe, set the attendees a modest test: every participant should leave with at least one AI-related action they could put to work in their own supply chain.
Customer sessions came from Reckitt, Danfoss and Schaeffler. They placed the practical work in freight procurement, data quality and delivery certainty. The piece notes that the job titles filling the customer slots were freight procurement and supply leaders, and it presents these as the people working out how AI scales in logistics.
The takeaway is that AI adoption in European supply chains is widespread but shallow, and the forum aimed to move companies from isolated use toward results at scale. The article text available here is excerpted, so it does not include further detail from the individual sessions or the third takeaway.
