Finnish startup launches revenue-share VPP for building batteries

A Finnish startup, Truman Data, has launched a virtual power plant (VPP) for batteries installed in buildings, offered on a revenue-share basis.

According to the company, the platform uses AI to predict how much flexibility each building and battery in a customer's portfolio can offer. It steers heating, ventilation, EV charging and battery loads within limits set by the customer. It then packages that flexibility into trades linked to Nord Pool day-ahead and intraday market prices.

The company did not say whether those trades are executed on the exchange or only modeled against market prices. It also did not say whether Truman Data trades directly or through a registered market participant. Those gaps leave open how much of the revenue-share offer reflects actual market participation.

The source text is only a fragment of the full article, mostly surrounded by site navigation and links to other stories. It does not include the revenue-share terms, pricing, customer names, capacity figures or any launch details beyond the platform's description. One unrelated item on the page notes that Wärtsilä has moved its battery energy storage system business into a 50/50 joint venture with RCT Solutions, called Valo, which it expects to remain loss-making until late 2027.

The launch matters as an example of software-led flexibility trading reaching smaller, building-level batteries in the Nordic power market, where Nord Pool prices set the signals for such optimisation. The unanswered questions about market access are the key points to watch.
