Nine People, One Pallet Jack: The Danish Startup Taking the Forklift Industry by Storm

A small Danish startup consisting of just nine people has developed an autonomous pallet jack called the J1600. The company operates under the tagline The Future Drives Itself and has already gained notable industry recognition, including being named to a list of robotics startups to watch and being admitted to Nvidia Corporation's AI startup program. Innovation Fund Denmark has also provided financial backing to support the venture.

The two founders have financed the entire operation themselves using their own capital and currently retain complete ownership without taking any outside equity. Although they view building physical hardware as a stroke of luck given the current low cost of producing software, they are heavily focused on advanced technology. The J1600 runs on an Nvidia computer, and the engineering team is working to enhance its semantic artificial intelligence so the machine can better perceive and understand its surroundings.

The primary goal of this ongoing development is to replace human drivers with an AI capable of making driving decisions that feel natural to people walking nearby. While the startup continues to refine this human-like movement, the core design of the pallet jack itself remains unchanged.
