GDM leadership reset

Google DeepMind experienced a major leadership restructuring. Demis Hassabis stepped back from daily operations to become Chairman of Google DeepMind and Chief Scientist of Alphabet, while Koray Kavukcuoglu took over operational control as Senior Vice President to steer Gemini and frontier research. Concurrently, several top Google researchers left to launch Discovery Loop, a public benefit corporation focused on automating machine learning, science, and engineering.

Meta entered the coding-agent market by releasing Muse Spark 1.2 and the Muse Code beta harness, which were co-trained to improve tool use and long-running task durability. In the open-source community, Prime Intellect introduced Prime Agent, a programmable harness built around a persistent IPython REPL. Local runtime developments included updates to llama.cpp, which added mainline voice cloning support for Qwen models and tested a CUDA-based method to cache frequently used Mixture of Experts components in VRAM. Liquid AI released a 2.6-billion parameter model with tool calling and a large context window, and community discussions evaluated efficiency claims surrounding new additive inference models.
