Tengai: 44 percent of AI job interviews conducted outside work hours
Swedish HR technology company Tengai has analyzed more than 20,000 screening interviews conducted through its artificial intelligence avatar to understand when job seekers participate in the recruitment process.
The findings show that 44 percent of these automated interviews take place outside traditional working hours, specifically before 8:00 in the morning and after 17:00 in the afternoon. Most of this activity happens on weekdays, accounting for 85 percent of the total interviews, while the remaining 15 percent occur during weekends.
Candidates complete the sessions when their personal schedules allow, such as during lunch breaks or after picking up children, though late-night interviews remain rare compared to international data trends. Tengai notes that these AI avatar sessions typically replace initial phone screenings, making it easier for employed applicants to participate without disrupting their current work obligations.
This flexibility matters because it removes scheduling barriers for active job seekers, allowing people to advance in the hiring process on their own time rather than being constrained by standard office hours.
