AI usage is growing faster among older Swedes

Artificial intelligence use is growing rapidly across the entire Swedish population, with recent statistics from Statistics Sweden showing that older people are now adopting the technology at an accelerated pace. Clear increases in artificial intelligence usage have been recorded since 2024 among older demographics. Currently, twenty percent of people aged sixty-five to seventy-four use artificial intelligence, while twelve percent of those aged seventy-five to eighty-four use it.

Despite this growth, many older individuals still have not tried the technology. The most common reason older people do not use artificial intelligence is that they simply do not see a need for it. Other frequent reasons include not knowing how generative artificial intelligence is used or being unaware that such tools even exist.

Privacy, security, and ethical concerns are cited by only a smaller share of users across all age groups. Understanding these adoption trends and barriers among older populations highlights how digital tools are spreading through society and where knowledge gaps remain.
