Novo Nordisk director: AI is breaking the laws of nature in pharma

Thilde Hummel Bøgebjerg, executive vice president of IT and quality at Novo Nordisk, states that the company cannot succeed in its strategy without artificial intelligence. In her first interview in this role, she explains how artificial intelligence is being utilized to achieve faster results in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry, where time holds immense financial value.

According to Bøgebjerg, artificial intelligence is effectively breaking what the company previously considered to be the laws of nature. Specifically, it is altering traditional constraints regarding the high costs associated with business growth and the long timelines required to develop new medicines.

She also notes that the technology will reduce the need for hiring new employees in the future. Additionally, Novo Nordisk successfully deployed artificial intelligence defensively earlier in the year when the company experienced a cyberattack.
