Norway Signs New Working Life Agreement on AI

The Norwegian government and major labor market organizations have signed a new working life agreement regarding artificial intelligence. The signatories include Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre alongside organizations such as LO, NHO, Unio, KS, Akademikerne, Virke, YS, and Spekter. The initiative aims to integrate artificial intelligence in alignment with the traditional Norwegian labor model to ensure employee rights are protected and the technology is adopted safely.

Prime Minister Støre states that the agreement will improve national competitiveness by promoting active use of powerful artificial intelligence tools. Rather than acting as a brake on innovation, workplace participation, transparency, and cooperation between parties are presented as essential prerequisites. Digitalization Minister Torgeir Micaelsen emphasizes that the agreement seeks to prevent artificial intelligence from becoming an exclusionary technology that workers fear.

To implement the agreement, a coordination group with representatives from all participating parties will be established to prioritize topics and organize future work. Furthermore, Micaelsen expresses that while Norway and Europe should utilize existing commercial models, the country should also hold ambitions to develop its own domestic and European language technologies as artificial intelligence expands across industries.
