Shadow AI in the Workplace: New Danish App Makes the Invisible Visible
The Danish cybersecurity company OneSecure has launched a free Windows application called Shadow AI Guardian. The software is designed to detect and map the artificial intelligence tools that employees use on their work computers.
The app scans individual PCs to identify various forms of artificial intelligence, including standalone apps and assistants, local AI models, browser and code editor extensions, and AI websites found in browser histories. After scanning, the software assigns each detected tool a specific risk score and a guidance level that aligns with the requirements of the EU AI Regulation. The developer states that the scanning process provides companies with a comprehensive overview in about one minute while keeping all user data on the local computer.
This development addresses a major challenge for modern businesses known as shadow AI, where employees use unauthorized or unmonitored artificial intelligence tools at work. Because companies cannot manage what they cannot see, the app gives organizations the visibility needed to use artificial intelligence responsibly and maintain compliance with European regulations.
